VIOLINIST, PERFORMANCE SPECIALIST, MUSICOLOGIST

David Milsom's work strikes a pragmatic balance between scholarly insight and musical intuition.

Head of Performance at Huddersfield University, he leads the Huddersfield Centre for Performance Research (HuCPeR), bringing his scholarship to fruition as a soloist, ensemble player and recording artist.

He is widely published on the subject of performance practice, and presents regularly at conferences in and outside of the UK.

Having initially specialised in nineteenth-century string playing practices, David has since broadened his investigations to encompass the changing performance styles of the twentieth century.

LATEST NEWS

June 2018:

Work continues on the Bach Violin Project, with the E Major sonata recorded in June 2018.

Plans for a new major monograph on historical performing practices are currently in progress.

The website of the CHASE project – a major resource for historical string performance – is currently being migrated to the University of Huddersfield (details forthcoming), and changes to the University of Huddersfield Research Centre has seen reformulation of HuCPeR into a new centre – ReCePP, and the setting up of a new record label via the University of Huddersfield Press – Huddersfield Historical Records – with an expected launch at the end of the summer.

One of its first releases will be David Milsom and Jonathan Gooing’s disc of Brahms sonatas (op. 120 1 and 2, op. 108), recorded with Sheffield Piano Recording engineer, James Bacon. Details to follow.
